They played a well received gig at the Vortex in London and then in February 2018 recorded an album u sing the Steinway piano at the Victoria Rooms here in Bristol. Then someth ing very unusual but also very fortuitous happened - an American Record La bel heard a sample of the recording and contacted Pat to say they wanted t o release the album. 'Bley School' was released to critical acclaim on the New York based label 577 Records in the summer of 2019. Following the suc cess of the first album\, 577 will be releasing a second Bley School album recorded live at Cafe Oto in London last June\, with the release planned for Spring this year.\n \;\nBLEY SCHOOL pays homage to Paul Bley\, dra wing on both his tunes and improvisational approach. Bley's music encompas sed latin-inspired grooves\, deceptively simple and catchy melodies\, as w ell as freer improvisations with drummers such as Paul Motian and Tony Oxl ey. Bley's willingness to collaborate openly with European improvisers as well as being part of the American tradition seemed like an attractive tem plate for the trio to follow. Their music might well be free improvisation but like Bley the trio are open to all the opportunities afforded by play ing with timeless tunes\, de- and re- constructing them at will. On the Bl ey School album you can hear shout-outs to Carla Bley\, Ornette Coleman an d Duke Ellington.\n \;\nThis is going to be a fascinating and entertai ning evening.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets are also available at TREBLEROCK Guitar Shop\, 52 The Mall in Clifton Village.\n\n \;\n \;\nFRINGE JAZZ\, Wednesdays at 7PM at The BRISTOL MUSIC CLUB\, 76 St Paul's Road\, C lifton.
