Bristol BS8 1LP&nbs p\; on Wednesday 22nd September at 7PM. Tickets £\;20\n\n \;\nIan Shaw - Vocals\, Iain Ballamy - Saxophones\, Jamie Safir - Piano\n \; \nDoors Open 7pm\nPerformance Starts at 7.30pm\n \;\n\nFor our first g ig in over 18 months and to launch our move to THE BRISTOL MUSIC CLUB we'r e proud to welcome three of the UK's leading jazz musicians - the exceptio nal vocalist IAN SHAW (Quincy Jones\, Cedar Walton\, Kurt Welling\, Liane Carroll\, Guy Barker)\, good friend to Fringe Jazz and internationally acc laimed saxophonist IAIN BALLAMY (Gil Evans\, Bill Bruford\, Joanna MacGreg or\, Carla Bley) and one of the finest young pianists of his generation JA MIE SAFIR (Claire Martin\, Will Young\, Alice Zawadzki\, Judi Jackson\, St an Sulzmann Natalie Williams).\n \;\nThe trio will be presenting music  \; from \;their superb album 'WHAT'S NEW' (Silent Wish records) t hat was released last year during lockdown. \;\n \;\n'What's New' was a timely coming together of three players\, whose collective interest in 'the moment' - i.e. musical improvisation\, in cahoots with a true love of classic song forms\, makes the live experience of the album\, an ever- growing\, yet representative gig.\nThe material is about human connections - friendships\, relationships\, positive and otherwise - and plunders 80 years of the popular song form. These are new arrangements of songs of lov e and hope - from the title song of their recording to Bernstein's 'Some O ther Time' as well as the Bacharach/David classics 'Alfie' and 'You'll Nev er Get To Heaven' alongside works by Legrand\, Jobim and Ellington. Primar ily saxophonist\, Ballamy's idea (via the songs that his late father loved )\, the exciting young pianist\, Jamie Safir (a recent contributor to the highly praised 'Alone Together'\, the Decca release of some of the most in novative young pianists around) was the natural choice. He's both provides the harmony and drive of this bass and drumless chamber sound but also jo ins in the dazzling flights of sheer improvisation that fires up this huge ly popular show. Shaw needs no introduction as one of the most important j azz singers and song interpreters of our times. His onstage and recording history with Ballamy is well-documented. They both appeared on 'In A New Y ork Minute' with the legendary Cedar Walton in the piano chair. And Ballam y\, alongside his own projects (Food\, Hungry Ants) has appeared on five S haw studio sets.\n'Three great jazz voices entwining. Captivating.' Robert Elms\, BBC Radio London\n \;\n'an exercise in musical artistry' Lance Liddle\, Bebop Spoken Here\n \;\nIan Shaw - &ldquo\;A profoundly soph isticated artist with a broad grasp of music&rsquo\;s mechanics\, as well as an affecting\, emotional and sometimes very funny singer&rdquo\; &ndash \; The Guardian  \;Iain Ballamy - &ldquo\;Intensely melodic\, eventful and full of surprises&hellip\; The beauty of tone that Iain Ballamy gets is certainly one of the joys of the current scene\, and his concern with c reating it echoes Stan Getz&rsquo\;s&rdquo\; &ndash\; Andy Hamilton  \ ;\nJamie Safir \; - 'Safir plays with wonderful judgement\, delicacy a nd alertness' - London Jazz News\n\n\n\nTickets are also available at TREB LEROCK Guitar Shop\, 52 The Mall in Clifton Village.
