Mark Lockheart's Dreamers arrive in Bristol on date 16 of their mammoth tour to promote their excellent new album 'Dreamers' that was released in January on Edition Records. Dreamers is the new project from the legendary British saxophonist and composer Mark Lockheart (Loose Tubes, Polar Bear, Perfect Houseplants, Kenny Wheeler) and featuring the remarkable Elliot Galvin (Dinosaur, Binker Golding) on keyboards and the phenomenal rhythm section of Tom Herbert (Polar Bear, The Invisible) on bass and Dave Smith (Robert Plant, Cloudmakers, Eddie Henderson) at the drums.
The band played one of their very first gigs at Fringe Jazz back in July 2019 before they were formally up and running, the sold out gig was one of the club's creative high point of the year and a return gig was scheduled for 2020 but cancelled thanks to the pandemic. Leap forward three years and the band have been in the studio to record a superb album and both CD and live performances have been receiving rave reviews.
As a founding member of Loose Tubes and Polar Bear, Mark Lockheart has often remained ahead of the curve and has constantly explored new directions in his own music. 'Dreamers' epitomises that adaptation and evolution, allowing the music to speak beyond the boundaries of genre. Lockheart’s multifaceted outlook on music is explored through a new set of original compositions with this bold and unique sounding group. Expect urgent, exciting grooves and textures, all cleverly crafted together within Lockheart’s unique and memorable melodies. There’s a wide range of influences here, from Ellington and Shorter to John Zorn, The Beatles and even Kraftwerk. This is going to be a very special night.
